| Applying the modern technology and expertise gained from working in the water industry, water leak detection on underground mains is carried out by non invasive acoustic methods. A site survey will typically commence with manual sounding of the mains fittings on the site, such as valves and fire hydrants. Once a leak noise has been identified specialized technology equipment is used to pinpoint the location of the leak. As high consumption is not always due to a leak on the underground pipe work the main cold water risers for buildings are also sounded to establish whether there is any unaccounted for consumption by faulty fittings. Step testing can also be carried out to quantify the flow rates along each section of main to identify which sections of main have consumption and/or leaks.
